It seems the Cubs' fire sale has begun, as they traded outfielder Joc Pederson to the Braves Thursday night.
Chicago received first baseman Bryce Ball in exchange for Pederson. Ball is a top 15 prospect in the Braves farm system, per MLB Pipeline.
The Braves lost superstar outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season just before the All-Star break due to a torn ACL. Pederson figures to provide some more power in their lineup behind All-Stars Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies.
Chicago is reportedly looking to sell several key veterans at the end of their contracts and Pederson could be the first of many to get dealt away from the Cubs before this year's trade deadline.
Injuries have kept the Braves from playing up to expectation this season, right after coming within one game of the World Series. They're currently 44-45 entering the second half of the year and sit four games behind the Mets for first place in the NL East.
In 73 games for the Cubs in 2021, Pederson hit .230 with 11 home runs and a .718 OPS.
