Despite a lackluster 2018 season that will most likely result in the Washington Nationals watching October baseball from their couches, Bryce Harper is still playing with a purpose.
The All-Star right fielder was named National League Player of the Week after hitting .438 (7-for-16) with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, 12 walks, two strikeouts and six runs scored in six games.
Major League Baseball made the announcement on MLB Network.
Harper had himself a Saturday for the Nationals' doubleheader against the Cubs, reaching base safely in seven of his eight plate appearances. This included a home run, two RBI, five walks and three runs scored. That one home run sealed the deal for the Nats in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 2.
Washington trails the NL East's first-place Braves by eight games as they hit the road to Philadelphia for a three-game set with the Phillies.
