Walter's Sports Bar will show the Nationals Game 7 World Series victory to eclipse their first franchise championship on New Year's Eve, timed perfectly with the final out at midnight. At one of Navy Yard's most notable sports bars -- 225 feet from Nats Park -- the NYE festivities will center around the World Series title run that defined 2019 in D.C. sports.
The bar is indeed named after Washington Senators pitcher Walter "Big Train" Johnson, a neighborhood legend so huge that the Bethesda Big Train, a collegiate summer baseball team in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, is also named after him. Walter Johnson efforted the Senators 1924 World Series title and remains the MLB record-holder with all-time shutouts, logging 110 shutouts over 21 years of play.
Walter's opened in spring 2019 and sits at the intersection of South Capitol and N St SE.
