Giants games vs. Padres postponed after positive COVID-19 test

Friday's matchup between the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres has been postponed following a positive COVID-19 test within the Giants organization, the team announced.

Saturday's game has also been postponed, and contact tracing and extra testing will take place in order to determine what comes next for both teams, the league shared.

The news comes just hours after MLB shared the latest results from a round of testing that yielded encouraging results. Out of 11,669 samples tested in the last week, only one came back positive and the test did not belong to a player.

MLB also announced that players had not tested positive for 12 straight days and 20 of the last 21 days.

Those results -- while still important -- now take a backseat as the league will hope to avoid another breakout as it experienced at the beginning of the season. Just a few games into the 2020 campaign, outbreaks within multiple organizations led to numerous games being postponed.

Now, teams like the St. Louis Cardinals, and even the Nationals, are working to fit all 60 games of the season into an even shorter time. With just around two weeks of play remaining in the regular season, a setback could create major problems.
