As the rest of the United States celebrated the birth of America this past July 4th, Max Scherzer and his wife Erica were celebrating the birth of something different.

Their second daughter, Kacey Hart Scherzer.

At 8:51 a.m., Erica delivered a healthy baby girl, weighing in 7 lbs, 14 ounces at 20 inches long.

The Scherzers aren't the only ones welcoming new beginnings.  Since May 24th, the Nationals' season has been reborn. They're 26-10 over that stretch, the best record in baseball.

Coming off one of the most dominant months of his career, the Nationals placed Scherzer on paternity leave last Wednesday. He's still expected to pitch in the All-Star game Monday.

Hopefully, Scherzer will bring this positive energy in the clubhouse and the teams' hot streak will continue. While on the subject of pitching, however, is it a mere coincidence his new daughter's name begins with a "K"?
