WASHINGTON -- A way to slow Max Scherzer has finally been discovered: he was placed on the paternity list Wednesday.

Scherzer and his wife, Erica, are expecting their second daughter in the coming days. Scherzer is still scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Miami Marlins and Monday in the All-Star Game. He'll just be temporarily away from the team.

Utility infielder Adrian Sanchez was recalled from Double-A Harrisburg to take Scherzer's roster spot.

Scherzer is coming off the most dominant month of his Hall-of-Fame level career. The Nationals also went on a run in the month to rise above .500 and re-enter the playoff race.
