Nationals catcher Yan Gomes left Friday's game in San Francisco in the second inning, though word on why wasn't immediately available.

He came out to warm up pitcher Paolo Espino prior to the bottom of the frame but headed back into the clubhouse before the starter could finish. With backup catcher Alex Avila already on the Injured List, Gomes was replaced by Tres Barrera, who made just his third appearance of the season and fifth of his career.

With the Nats down 3-0 in the fourth, Barrera drove in the team's first two runs of the game on a triple that came up just short of leaving the park. The hit counted for his first career extra-base hit, triple, RBI and eventually run scored when Gerardo Parra brought him home with a double to tie the game.

It was a nice showing for the 26-year-old catcher, but Nats fans will hope to hear good news regarding Gomes. Already decimated by injuries this season, the Nats can ill-afford to lose another player for an extended period of time.
