Prince's Prop: Lane Thomas 2+ Total Bases (+230)
The Nationals’ acquisition of OF Lane Thomas at the trade deadline was a relatively under-the-radar move considering the attention rightfully placed on the pieces they acquired from Los Angeles for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. But in the week since he was recalled from Triple-A Rochester, Thomas has shown signs of someone to also be optimistic about.
The 25-year-old, who the Nats received from the Cardinals for Jon Lester, is 9-for-15 with three XBH, two RBI, five BB and just one strikeout since his first game with the Nats on Aug. 15. Six of those hits have come against left-handed pitchers, whom he’s hit for a ridiculous .750 average and 1.250 slugging percentage in that span leading into Tuesday’s matchup against Marlins lefty Jesús Luzardo.
If Thomas is in the lineup, his +230 odds to record 2+ total bases is my favorite prop from this matchup on PointsBet Sportsbook. Although his sample size with the Nationals is small, his career splits against righties and lefties show a trend that can’t be ignored. In 51 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers, he has a 1.084 OPS and 183 wRC+ versus .570 OPS and 62 wRC+ in 111 PA against right-handed hurlers.
As for his more recent performances, Thomas has multiple hits in each of the four games he’s started for the Nationals and an extra-base hit in each of the last three. He has a great opportunity to extend that against Luzardo, who has been pounded by righty batters this season and has given up nine home runs in his last nine games, not to mention extra base hits.
