Ryan Zimmerman continues spring training tear with another home run

Nationals

In his 16th spring training with the Washington Nationals, Ryan Zimmerman has hit another dinger. In his first at bat on Monday against St. Louis, Zimmerman hit a deep drive off Cardinalsโ€™ RHP John Gant to put the Nationals up 2-0 in the first inning.

It was Zimโ€™s third home run of spring training and brought his RBI total up to seven. Apart from his seemingly ageless level of athleticism, what makes Zimmermanโ€™s current tear so immaculate is the fact that Zimmerman isย not a fan ofย spring training.

โ€˜Mr. National,โ€™ as heโ€™s known around the nationโ€™s capital for his now 17-season tenure with the Nats, has been a longstanding enemy of spring training. He has skipped preseason games down in the Sunshine State before, noting that itโ€™ll help him avoid later-season injuries and exhaustion.

Notwithstanding his dislike of spring training, Zimmerman is in the midst ofย  hitting streak, especially for a 36-year-old. He opened the 2021 campaign homering against the Astros, hit another dinger three days later against the Mets, and has now hit his third home run in 11 at bats.

The Nationals host theย New York Mets for Opening Dayย on April 1st. Hopefully Mr. National will continues his hot streak once games count for real.
