If any franchise has an affinity for foul poles, it’s the Nationals. Howie Kendrick delivered the biggest hit in team history last October when he hit a line-drive homer off the rightfield foul pole at Minute Maid Park to give Washington a lead it would never relinquish in Game 7 of the World Series.
Two games into the 2020 campaign, the Nationals are back at it again.
This time it was Victor Robles, crushing a two-run shot off New York Yankees reliever Michael King to give Washington a comfortable 5-2 lead in the fourth inning Saturday night.
It was no Kendrick moment, but there’s something about the Nationals and foul poles that seems to work out in their favor.
