Victor Robles may not have a Gold Glove on his mantle, but the Nationals’ centerfielder showed he’s deserving of one Tuesday night against the Braves.
With Atlanta trailing 6-5, Braves third baseman Austin Riley came to the plate with two outs and a runner on base in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nationals reliever Wander Suero battled with Riley for a few pitches before the infielder got ahold of a cutter up in the zone.
Riley hit the ball on a rope to the centerfield wall, sending Robles sprinting back. Robles checked his surroundings once, then leapt up, stretched his arm over the wall and pulled in the go-ahead home run before it could clear the fence.
Robles was a Gold Glove finalist in 2019, losing out to Brewers centerfielder Lorenzo Cain for the award. He may be only 23 years old but Robles is quickly establishing himself as one of the best defensive outfielders in the sport. Perhaps a Gold Glove of his own won’t be too far behind.
