There's a good chance Nationals fans would classify this one as a clown speech, bro.
Prior to the Phillies Sunday afternoon game against the Miami Marlins, Bryce Harper graced the Philadelphia faithful with this message.
"I know it didn't go as planned," Harper said, and he's right. After the offseason acquisitions of former NL MVP Award winners Harper and Andrew McCutchen to its outfield, as well as catcher J.T. Realmuto and shortstop Jean Segura, many experts selected the Phillies to make some noise in the postseason, not miss it completely.
On the bright side, Harper did promise to "bring a title back to D.C.," during his Phillies introductory press conference, and after the Nationals defeated Philadelphia last Tuesday to clinch a playoff birth, he's certainly upheld his end of the bargain.
One step closer 🙂 Couldn’t have done it without you, Bryce. https://t.co/jipS6CMErS— NBC Sports Nationals (@NBCSNationals) September 25, 2019
