The only thing better than receiving a scholarship? Finding out from Kevin Durant.
The two-time NBA champion and 11-time All-Star called into a Maryland football meeting on Zoom to wish the players good luck in the upcoming 2021 season. However, he also had a special announcement: Senior defensive lineman Greg Rose had earned a scholarship.
Rose, who graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, has appeared in just two games during his college career but impressed coaches with his play last spring before being named a recipient of the Scott McBrien Outstanding Non-Scholarship Player Award. He transferred to UMD as a walk-on after playing one season at Lackawanna Community College.
Durant was born in D.C. and went to high school at Montrose Christian in Rockville. Despite not calling the DMV home for over a decade, the former MVP has directed charitable efforts toward Prince George’s County and the surrounding communities for years.
