Maryland lands NC State DE transfer Joseph Boletepeli

Mike Locksley and the Maryland football program landed a surprise transfer Tuesday in the form of 6'4, 262-pound defensive end Joseph Boletepeli out of NC State.

The former three-star recruit announced he would be transferring from NC State to West Virginia in June, but it appears he changed his mind for a school that recruited him out of high school.

Boletepeli played the last two seasons at NC State and appeared in a total of six games. Most of his playing time came in 2019 as a redshirt-freshman, where he tallied 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss to go along with 11 total tackles.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2020, Boletepeli should at the least provide depth on the edge behind Mosiah Nasili-Kite, Sam Okuayinonu and Lawtez Rogers.
