Mississippi State running back Kylin Hill said on Monday he will not be playing football for Mississippi State until the state flag is changed, responding to a tweet from Mississippi governor Tate Reeves explaining why he was against a proposal to create a new state flag.
Either change the flag or I won’t be representing this State anymore 💯 & I meant that .. I’m tired https://t.co/IzizpWLoIg— Kylin Hill (@H_Kylin) June 22, 2020
The governor said in a tweet that he believes the option of having a second flag may be “well-intentioned, it does not meet the threshold”.
Over the weekend there has been a proposal floating amongst some in the legislature to create a second Mississippi flag. Let’s call it the “Separate but Equal” flag option.— Tate Reeves (@tatereeves) June 22, 2020
While well-intentioned I’m sure, it does not meet the threshold. pic.twitter.com/f2aOLgV75O
Late last week the NCAA warned Mississippi that it would not hold major competitions in the state until a Confederate battle symbol was stripped from the flag. According to reports, a state Senate resolution brought earlier this month to change the flag is not likely to make it out of committee.
In response to one now-deleted tweet Hill added that he was "born in this state."
Unlike rest I was born in this state 💯 and I knwo what the flag mean— Kylin Hill (@H_Kylin) June 22, 2020
"And I (know) what the flag mean."
Hill's teammates and former Bulldogs joined in on supporting Hill's stance on changing the flag. It is unclear if the star RB's statement meant sitting out the season or leaving MSU, but one thing is for sure that the team would take a major hit not having the SEC's leading rusher last season in 2020.
You have my full support brotha! That flag represents hate, racism, oppression! It’s BEEN TIME for a change. There’s strength in numbers! We all have to be on board https://t.co/2d73tRDEiI— KJ (@KJ_WRIGHT34) June 22, 2020
