Tyler Herro encourages Maryland recruit who left high school early

Maryland freshman James Graham III says he was joking around when he told a reporter that he didn’t want to “waste my time” at the high school level after graduating early to enroll at College Park.

The four-star small forward apologized on Twitter for the comment, but an NBA star reached out to tell him not to apologize to anyone.

Tyler Herro, who helped the Miami Heat reach the 2020 NBA Finals in his first season at the professional level, told Graham to “be you” and “keep working” as his collegiate career gets underway. Herro was a four-star recruit himself coming out of high school. He played one year at Kentucky before being drafted 13th overall by the Heat in 2019.

Graham won’t join the Terps until after winter break, but he’s already building a reputation for having a fun, laid-back personality.

Maryland is off to a 2-0 start to its 2020-21 campaign after beating Navy 82-52 on Friday.
