VT opener vs. NC State moved back two weeks

Washington

Virginia Tech's first opponent in 2020 was supposed to be NC State, but it appears that matchup will be pushed back by two weeks.

The Hokies' 2020 season opener against NC State has been moved from September 12 to September 26. The Hokies will open their season against Virginia instead on September 19.

This news follows a coronavirus outbreak within the NC State athletic department, where 22 new cases were found this week. NC State has temporarily paused all athletic-related activities in response to the outbreak.

The ACC announced an 11-game schedule in late July where each team in the conference, including Notre Dame, will play each other. The two teams with the best winning percentage at the end of the year will play in the ACC championship game.

The 2020 college football season will be unlike any other in history. Adjustments will have to be made on the fly and in a decisive manner. This schedule rearrangement between NC State and Virginia Tech will not likely be the last.
