Orioles open second half with three against Tigers

The Orioles open second half play on Friday night against the Detroit Tigers at Oriole Park.Detroit is the only American League opponent the Orioles have yet to play this season.The two teams have split 10 games in each of the last two years, and Baltimore has a slim 50-49 advantage since 1999.Jason Hammel (8-5, 3.47) faces Doug Fister (2-6, 4.75) on Friday. Saturdays game will be televised by FOX and begins at 4:15 p.m. It will be preceded by the unveiling of Jim Palmers statue. Wei-Yin Chen (7-5, 3.93) and Max Scherzer (7-5, 4.98). Kenny Albert and Billy Ripken will be the announcers for Saturdays game.On Sunday, Chris Tillman (1-0, 0.00) will be recalled from Bowie to start against Jason Verlander (9-5, 2.58), the losing pitcher in the All-Star Game.Gates will open at 2 p.m. for the Palmer ceremony. It begins at 2:15 p.m.
