2018 MLB All-Star Game voting update: Machado still favorite for A.L. shortstop

Manny Machado has held a comfortable lead over American League shortstops since All-Star Game voting began June 1.

Machado is batting .305/.375/.559 on the season, the silver lining to an abysmal last-place Baltimore team.

He currently leads second-place Carlos Correa by 167,000 votes. Machado is the only Oriole on the ballot.

If the current leaders stand when voting ends, the nine starters will represent eight American Leagues, which would be an MLB record.

Voting is open until July 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Baltimore Orioles Roundup: Joey Rickard lights up Tampa Bay pitching

The Baltimore Orioles knocked off the Tampa Bay Rays 6-5 in extra innings on Thursday. Baltimore will now return home after a week-long road trip to face the Minnesota Twins.

Here's the latest Orioles, Rays and Twins news:

Player Notes:

ORIOLES:

Outfielder Joey Rickard had himself a night against Tampa Bay. The 28-year-old went 4-for-5 with a double that scored the go-ahead run in the 11th inning and a triple. A good sign for him, as he entered Thursday's game with a .212 batting average and just 11 hits on the season.

Pitcher John Means is moving to the bullpen after joining the starting rotation temporarily. With Alex Cobb expected to be back in the rotation, Means now will transition to a long-relief role for the Orioles.

Outfielder Austin Hays no longer needs a splint and is ready to begin hitting. He's been sidelined for nearly a month and will likely require multiple rehab games at extended spring training and/or the lower levels of the Orioles' minor-league system before reporting to Triple-A Norfolk.

RAYS:

Pitcher Brent Honeywell is shut down with a sore elbow. Honeywell will be out for at least a few days after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired elbow.

Pitcher Blake Snell threw again on Thursday. For the second straight day there were no issues, and he is now moving toward an upcoming bullpen session as his next step in rehabilitation.

TWINS:

Outfielder Eddie Rosario hits two solo home runs in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday. It's been an up-and-down year for him, but since April 9 he has four multi-hit games and five long balls as well.

Catcher Jason Castro sat out Thursday's game against Toronto. He's been splitting time with Mitch Garver throughout the season.

Injuries:

1B Chris Davis: Illness, day-to-day

RP Richard Bleier: Shoulder, 10-Day IL

SP Alex Cobb: Back, 10-Day IL

SP Nate Karns: Arm, 10-Day IL
