Baltimore Orioles Roundup: Alex Cobb named Opening Day starter

Opening Day for the Baltimore Orioles is just two weeks away. Here are Thursday's updates from Spring Training.

Player Updates:

Alex Cobb will be the Orioles' Opening Day starter March 28 against the Yankees, manager Brandon Hyde announced Wednesday. Cobb went 5-15 with a 4.90 ERA in 152 1/3 innings in 2018, but had a quietly strong second half, compiling a 3-3 record with a 2.56 ERA in his final 10 starts.

Right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner struck out four but surrendered three runs on five hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings of work in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Second baseman Jonathan Villar's poor spring continued Wednesday as he went 0-2 with a walk against Toronto. Villar is hitting .160 in the Grapefruit League, but on the semi-bright side, he's maintaining a .300 OBP.
