Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander was not in the lineup for Game 2 of the team's doubleheader against the New York Yankees Friday due to what manager Brandon Hyde called an oblique injury.
Santander was replaced in the final inning of the first game, a 6-5 loss, after appearing to suffer the injury while swinging at a pitch in the eighth. He finished the at-bat by lining out with runners on second and third with two outs, finishing the game 0-4 with a walk.
After the O's came up empty in the inning, the Yankees scored two in the top of the ninth on singles by Miguel Andujar and Clint Frazier to seal the victory. The Orioles squandered a game in which they got home runs from Cedric Mullins, Rio Ruiz and Renato Nunez.
The loss was Baltimore's second straight and seventh in its last nine games. If the team intends to get on track, it'll need Santander back in the fold. Entering the second game of the doubleheader, his 40 hits this season were second on the team, and he led the team with 11 home runs and 32 RBI.
