Orioles Twitter was all abuzz Tuesday afternoon thanks to a cryptic Instagram post from Ryan Mountcastle, the team's fifth-best prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
Fans have been clamoring for Mountcastle to join the big league club all season long, and those calls have been amplified thanks to Chris Davis' continued struggles. Understandably, the prospect himself posting a picture of himself in an Orioles uniform got fans wondering if Tuesday was the big day.
It turns out it was not, and fans are still left waiting for another early glimpse at the future of the organization. Mountcastle is reportedly still adjusting to his new position in the field - he was drafted as a shortstop and now plays first base and left field - but his bat has looked big league-ready since last season. His power bat won the International League MVP in 2019 and would fit in nicely with an Orioles lineup that has defied expectations all season by mashing the ball.
Mountcastle isn't coming up yet, so ultimately it was a false alarm. It still was nice to see him in a nice, crisp orange jersey, though. Hopefully that's a sight O's fans can get used to for a very long time.
