Mancini hits clutch homer in final game before HR Derby

Someone needs to let Trey Mancini know that the Home Run Derby isn’t until Monday.

The Orioles’ first baseman is set to participate in the annual slugfest at Coors Field this week, but first Baltimore had to play its final game of the first half Sunday against the Chicago White Sox. With the home team trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Mancini came to the plate and delivered with a game-tying homer at Camden Yards.

Mancini sent the pitch 376 feet onto the concourse in right field for his 16th long ball of the season. Though the home run gave the Orioles extra life, the White Sox rallied for three runs in the 10th to secure an eventual 7-5 win.

The next time Orioles fans will see Mancini will be in Denver, where the sixth-seeded infielder will square off against Oakland A’s slugger Matt Olson in the first round. If he moves on, he’ll face the winner of the matchup between Joey Gallo and Trevor Story.
