Monumental Sports announces 15,000th meal delivered to frontline heroes during pandemic

As a part of Monumental Sports & Entertainments foundation's “Feeding the Frontlines” inititive, Chairman and CEO Ted Leonsis announced today that the program has reached a major milestone by delivering its 15,000th meal.

“I am proud of the hard work of our MSE Foundation for leading this effort to support our first responders and health care workers who are fighting to protect our community,” Leonsis said. “Service to our community is a core value for us at Monumental Sports and I am deeply appreciative to our teams, players and staff for their donations and support to deliver meals to these brave heroes and for helping us to reach this tremendous milestone.”

The foundation, created back in April, has since delivered meals across the Greater Washington area to first responders, health care and essential workers to hospitals and COVID-19 testing sites. In partnership with chefs from the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, the foundation will continue distributing meals to heroes fighting the pandemic across our region.

World-class athletes will come together to discuss one of the most pressing issues facing our country –– racism –– and its impacts on sports. In a roundtable discussion hosted by the Golf Channel’s Damon Hack, the primetime special will feature nine different athletes including Steph Curry, Charles Barkley and Kyle Rudolph to discuss the events following George Floyd’s death and how they pertain to the world of sports.

In addition to recent events, the panel discusses a range of topics like social justice, race in the locker room, experiences with law enforcement and how sports can combat inequality.

In the first segment, Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn, World Long Drive competitor Troy Mullins and 10-time ATP tennis champion James Blake discuss their perspectives followed by a second segment featuring two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry, Basketball Hall-of-Famer and TNT NBA analyst Charles Barkley, World Series champion shortstop Jimmy Rollins and MLB Hall-of-Famer Ozzie Smith.

Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Jerome Bettis also spoke with Hack for an extended interview available on NBC Sports’ digital and podcast platforms.
