GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) To most people, Wednesday will just be a quirky date: Dec. 12, 2012, or 12-12-12. But to Packers fans, the number 12 carries special meaning.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers wears No. 12. So earlier this year the state Legislature designated the day Aaron Rodgers Day in honor of the Super Bowl winner and last year's MVP.
Some public and private businesses are encouraging their employees to wear Rodgers jerseys Wednesday. Others are encouraging $12 donations to the MACC Fund charity. A Green Bay mall is offering special deals, including $20 Aaron Rodgers T-shirts for $12.
Rodgers has said he prefers to deflect personal attention to his team, but he was honored by the proclamation.
Rodgers' predecessor wore No. 4. However, the state Legislature never named April 4, 2004 Brett Favre Day.
Stephen Strasburg made his 2020 debut Sunday after missing the first two and a half weeks of the season with a nerve issue in his throwing hand. But before he could take the mound, the Nationals put up a video on the jumbotron of another Stephen Strasburg catching the first pitch.
“Stephen Strasburg” was adopted from the Humane Rescue Center by Nationals fan Mary Elizabeth Pratt just before last fall’s World Series. Her pitch was a little bit outside but Stephen had no problem scooping it up and running it back over to her.
The baseball-playing Stephen Strasburg is coming off a year in which he won World Series MVP honors and signed a seven-year extension to remain with the Nationals.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) -- Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green's suggestion for Devin Booker's future did not amuse the NBA.
The league fined Green $50,000 on Sunday for violating the league's anti-tampering rule with his comments about Booker, the Phoenix Suns' star guard.
"Get my man out of Phoenix," Green said Saturday during an appearance as an analyst for TNT. "It's not good for him. It's not good for his career."

Asked on-air if he was tampering, Green replied, "maybe."
The league tightened its rules before this season when it comes to matters such as tampering, salary cap circumvention and free agency timing rules -- with one emphasis being the rule prohibiting player-to-player tampering.
Booker has not been to the playoffs with the Suns, who have not made the postseason in 10 years. The Suns are 5-0 so far inside the so-called bubble at Walt Disney World, which is playing host to the NBA's restart, and that streak has moved Phoenix into playoff contention.
