Red Sox agree to new deal with reliever Breslow

BOSTON (AP) The Boston Red Sox signed left-handed pitcher Craig Breslow on Thursday.

Breslow, who had been eligible for salary arbitration, agreed to a two-year contract, with a club option for 2015.

In 63 combined appearances between Arizona and Boston last season, Breslow, 32, went 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA. He was acquired by the Red Sox on July 31 from the Diamondbacks in exchange for pitcher Matt Albers and outfielder Scott Podsednik.

Breslow, a native of New Haven, Conn., and a Yale graduate, has made 60 or more appearances in each of the last four seasons for a total of 282. That ranks fourth among all major league relievers since 2009.

Originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 26th round of the 2002 June draft, Breslow has a 15-17 record with a 3.00 ERA in 358 career games. In Boston, he is 1-2 with a 3.09 ERA in 36 appearances.

Jay Gruden reportedly to join Jaguars as their offensive coordinator

Jay Gruden reportedly to join Jaguars as their offensive coordinator

Just four months shy of his last appearance on the NFL gridiron sidelines, Jay Gruden may already have his 2020 gig lined up, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Gruden was head coach of the Washington Redskins for six seasons, beginning in 2014 and going 35-49-1 in his burgundy and gold tenure. Gruden pushed the Redskins to their first postseason appearance since 2012 in his second year with the team, as well as back-to-back winning seasons in 2015 and 2016, not seen in Washington since 1996 and 1997.

In March 2017, Gruden signed a two-year extension with the Redskins. He was fired after beginning the 2019 season 0-5.

Recently, Gruden confirmed to Rapoport that he was "itching for something to do" and seeking employment before Jacksonville brought him in to interview for the OC role.

After playing four years at the University of Louisville and and eight more in various football leagues, Gruden held many offensive roles, offensive coordinator for the Florida Tuskers and Cincinnati Bengals.

Jalen Smith slams home a powerful put-back dunk against Northwestern

Jalen Smith gets a lot of slack for leaving points on the board inside the paint. Against Northwestern, he made sure these two points would count.

Following an Anthony Cowan Jr. missed layup in transition, Smith followed in with an authoritative slam dunk.

After a sluggish start in the first half for the Terps offense, this slam dunk got Maryland's juices flowing as they looked poised to scrap together a comeback.

The slam came just 30 seconds following another Smith flush, showing an added intensity for the Terps.

Those four straight points got Maryland back within 10 points of Big Ten foes Northwestern, whose zone defense befuddled the Terrapin offense in the opening 20 minutes.

If the Terps hope to complete the comeback, more momentum-swinging points like these will be necessary.
