Chris Thompson was aware that it was going to turn into a blog, but he went on and said it anyway.
During a 1-on-1 interview with JP Finlay on Saturday at training camp, Finlay asked Thompson to describe Derrius Guice with one word. And the one word Thompson chose was "childish."
The thing is, he was using it in a positive manner.
"That can be taken in a bad way," Thompson acknowledged. "Like he's just one of those guys, he doesn't need to sleep, he doesn't need to eat right. He can just come out here — he doesn't need to stretch or anything — he can come out here, be full speed, run all day and he never gets tired."
"That's what you see in a child," he added. "When you were a kid, you could eat anything, you could do anything with no problem."
Guice just turned 21, so while he's not exactly a child, he is young and, as a rookie, is experiencing everything in the NFL for the first time. On and off the field, he's as enthusiastic as they come. In fact, Jay Gruden and others like to call him a "ball of energy" so often, it may be worth putting that phrase on the back of his 'Skins jersey instead of his last name.
And so far, his teammates have had nothing but praise for the first-year back. That's why Thompson was cool with this story getting written (thanks, Chris) when Finlay told him it was surely going to inspire one.
"That's OK, that's OK," he said. "'I've already said it to Guice, too, so he knows that'll never be taken the wrong way."
