For the first time in his NFL career, Chris Thompson will have a new home.
The longtime Redskins running back has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team confirmed on Friday. In Jacksonville, Thompson reunites with Jay Gruden, as the Jaguars hired the former Redskins head coach as their offensive coordinator earlier this offseason.
Throughout their six years together in Washington, Thompson and Gruden had a strong relationship. Gruden arrived in Washington in 2014 and was the head coach that truly gave the running back a chance to show what he could do. With Gruden at the helm, Thompson went from being a practice squad player to a vital contributor in Washington's offense.
When Gruden was let go by the Redskins last October, Thompson had trouble holding back his emotion.
"I feel like he was one of the guys that really believed in me, and wanted me to stay here and be with him through his whole legacy here as a coach," Thompson said at the time.

Thompson's best season came with the Redskins in 2017, when was arguably the most valuable weapon in the Redskins' offense. Specializing as a pass-catching back, Thompson finished with a career-high 510 receiving yards and six total touchdowns in just 10 games.
But over the past few seasons, durability has been an issue for Thompson. SInce 2017, Thompson's missed 17 total games due to various injuries and has played no more than 11 games in any of those campaigns.
In Jacksonville, Thompson will likely have a similar role to the one he had in Washington. Should he stay healthy, the 29-year-old will be a nice pass-catching option out of the backfield for second-year QB Gardner Minshew.
"I'm not done. I'm still the guy I've been the last four years, regardless of what it may look like or what some people may think," Thompson said in December. "I'm still that guy. I can still play. I have all the confidence in myself."
