One position in need of an upgrade in Washington is wide receiver. Though Terry McLaurin asserted himself as a top target in 2019, the Redskins desperately need another pass catcher who can line up across from him and provide Dwayne Haskins with another consistent option. The 2020 NFL Draft provides the opportunity to do that.

However, because Washington holds the No. 2 pick and then no second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, selecting a wide receiver early doesn't seem likely. That means missing out on prospects such as CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III, all receivers that can instantly upgrade an offense substantially.

In past drafts, a miss like that could haunt teams, as pro-ready targets aren't always easy to come by. However, this year's receiver class is different.

Regarded as one of the most talented groups in NFL Draft history, there are numerous talented players that could help the Redskins besides the top names, and they won't be gone after the first round.

When the Redskins are on the clock with the No. 66 pick, Michael Pittman Jr. and Chase Claypool are worth a look if still available. Pittman Jr. has a mix of height (6'4'') and speed (4.52 40-yard time) that will allow him to create favorable matchups on the outside. Claypool is considered to be one of the most versatile options in the draft as he can line up outside, in the slot and even get looks at tight end.

If those two are gone, or the Redskins feel the need to use the third-round pick on another position, the search for a receiver won't be over. A lesser-known prospect like Antonio Gandy-Golden out of Liberty still promises to be a viable threat on the outside, while Ohio State's K.J. Hill could be this year's McLaurin, a third-rounder out of OSU in 2019. Hill packs a similar skill set and a familiarity with quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
