The Redskins needed a guard, and finally, they took one.
Washington selected Indiana guard Wes Martin in the fourth round and there must be an expectation that he can come in and compete with Ereck Flowers for the starting left guard position.
Martin, a 6-foot-3, 316 lbs. mauler, comes to the Redskins with a reputation for brute strength. Speaking with the media, Martin explained that he was disappointed in his bench press performance at his Pro Day when he posted 225 lbs. 38 times. That's a lot.
A four-year starter at Indiana that twice made honorable mention All-Big Ten, Martin did not have a particularly high profile coming into the draft.
Fwiw, Mel Kiper ranked 41 guards pre-draft.

Wes Martin not listed. https://t.co/C4z8inHxu8
Maybe that's a good thing though?
Had 1469 snaps at guard allowing just two sacks over his last two seasons, best amongst all collegiate guards #Redskins https://t.co/iJrejZZDFh

Martin visited the Redskins during the pre-draft process, and it's clear Washington liked what they saw.
