NFL Week 4 Recap: Redskins Road Map
NFL Week 3 Recap: Top stories from Redskins opponents
The Redskins only have 16 chances to make an impact and make the playoffs.
As good as it is to know about your own team, it's imperative that we get familiar with how the Redskins future opponents are doing.
Take a look at how the Redskins opponents are doing thus far.
New Orleans Saints (3-1)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 5. Monday, Oct. 8 at 8:15 p.m. (New Orleans)
Week 4 Result: 33-18 win over the Giants.
Week 4 Performers: RB Alvin Kamara (19 carries, 134 yards, 5 catches, 47 yards), QB Drew Brees (18-32, 217 yards, 0 TD), WR Josh Hill (3 catches, 63 yards)
Notable Injuries: LB Manti Te'o (knee), DE Marcus Davenport (hip)
What it means for the Redskins: When Alvin Kamara is going, the dynamic offense of New Orleans can take a backseat. The only 217 yard-performance by Drew Brees is not indicative of how things are to come for the Saints' offense. Washington will have their hands full and needs their defense to take it to another level to keep their offense within striking range.
Carolina Panthers (3-1)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 6. Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m. (FedEx Field)
Week 4 Result: Bye
Week 3 Performers: QB Cam Newton (15-24, 150 yards, 2 TD, 10 carries, 36 yards, 2 TD), RB Christian McCaffrey (28 carries, 184 yards, 2 catches, 10 yards), WR Devin Funchess (4 catches, 67 yards, 1 TD)
Notable Injuries: None
What it means for the Redskins: Carolina will be the first formiadable defense that the Redskins will have to face in 2018. Many of the Redskins kinks with Alex Smith and his wide receiving corps will have to befigured out because they cannot afford to go one-dimensional. That Cam Newton guy, alongside Christian McCaffrey, are problems too.
Dallas Cowboys (2-2)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 7 (Sunday, Oct. 21 at 4:25 p.m., FedEx Field), Week 12 (Thursday, Nov. 22 at 4:30 p.m., Dallas)
Week 4 Result: 26-24 win over Lions
Week 4 Performers: RB Ezekiel Elliott (25 carries, 152 yards, 4 catches, 88 yards, 1 TD), DE Demarcus Lawrence (8 tackles, 3.0 sacks), QB Dak Prescott (17-27, 255 yards, 2 TD)
Notable Injuries: WR Cole Beasley (ankle), C Travis Fredrick (illness), LB Sean Lee (hamstring), DT Maliek Collins (knee)
What it means for the Redskins: The Cowboys offfense did not much better against the Lions (although Prescott did throw for over 200 yards finally), but it is certain that Ezekiel Elliott is back into form and that is not good for opponents. The Redskins' rush defense held David Johnson's production down in Week 1, can they do it again?
New York Giants (1-3)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 8 (Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m., East Rutherford), Week 14 (Sunday, Dec. 9 at 1:00 p.m., FedEx Field)
Week 4 Result: 33-18 loss to Saints.
Week 3 Performers: QB Eli Manning (31-41, 252 yards, 1 TD), RB Saquon Barkley (10 carries, 44 yards, 1 TD, 6 catches, 56 yards), WR Sterling Shepard (10 catches, 77 yards, 1 TD)
Notable Injuries: WR Stacy Coley (hamstring), LB Olivier Vernon (ankle), CB Eli Apple (groin), TE Evan Engram (knee)
What it means for the Redskins: The playmakers on the Giants will jump off the page on the scouting report, but the offensive line is atrocious. Washington's D-line should have a field day. The only wrinkle that could circumvent that is *if* Eli is able to escape and get a pass off, he has one of the best receiving corps in the league.
Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 9. Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m. (FedEx Field)
Week 3 Result: 43-37 loss to the Saints.
Week 3 Performers: WR Calvin Ridley (7 catches, 146 yards, 3 TD), QB Matt Ryan (26-35, 374 yards, 5 TD), RB Tevin Coleman (15 carries, 33 yards, 2 catches, 14 yards)
Notable Injuries: RB Devonta Freeman (knee), CB Justin Bethel (knee), DE Derrick Shelby (groin)
What it means for the Redskins: Despite losing Sunday's shootout to New Orleans, the Falcons offense looks plenty dyanmic, even without Freeman. Atlanta has several weapons that will give the Redskins fits.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 10. Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. (Tampa)
Week 3 Result: 30-27 loss to the Steelers.
Week 3 Performers: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (30-50, 411 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT), WR Mike Evans (6 catches, 137 yards, 1 TD), LB Lavonte David (9 tackles, 3 tackles for loss)
Notable Injuries: DT Vita Vea (calf), DT Beau Allen (foot), CB Carlton Davis (groin)
What it means for the Redskins: The MNF loss may have brought him down to earth slightly, but "FitzMagic" is still the talk of the NFL. If his production continues, he may still be the starter when the Redskins see Tampa, even after Jameis Winston comes back from his suspension.
Houston Texans (0-3)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 11. Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1:00 p.m. (FedEx Field)
Week 3 Result: 27-22 loss to the Giants.
Week 3 Performers: QB Deshaun Watson (24-40, 385 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 5 carries, 36 yards), WR Will Fuller V (5 catches, 101 yards, 1 TD), WR DeAndre Hopkins (6 catches, 86 yards)
Notable Injuries: DE J.J. Watt (thigh), WR Sammie Coates (hamstring), WR Will Fuller V (hamstring), WR DeAndre Hopkins (thumb/ankle/hamstring)
What it means for the Redskins: Watson can certainly be a handul for the Skins once they see Houston, but that won't be till Nov. 18. Can Watson stay healthy until then? The Texans are winless despite outgaining their last two opponents in total yards.
Philadelphia Eagles (2-1)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 13 (Monday, Dec. 3 at 8:15 p.m., Philadelphia) Week 17 (Sunday, Dec. 30 at 1;00 p.m., FedEx Field)
Week 3 Result: 20-16 win over the Colts.
Week 3 Performers: RB Wendell Smallwood (10 carries, 56 yards, 1 TD, 3 catches, 35 yards), QB Carson Wentz (25-37, 255 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), TE Dallas Goedert (7 catches, 73 yards, 1 TD)
Notable Injuries: RB Darren Sproles (knee), WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder/illness), RB Corey Clement (quadricep)
What it means for the Redskins: Carson Wentz looked a little rusty in his first start since tearing his ACL and LCL last season. But by the time the Redskins see Philly, he'll more than likely be back into full form physically.
Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 15. Sunday, Dec. 16 at 1:00 p.m. (Jacksonville)
Week 3 Result: 9-6 loss to the Titans.
Week 3 Performers: QB Blake Bortles (21-34, 155 yards), RB TJ Yeldon (7 carries , 44 yards, 6 catches, 46 yards), DE Calais Campbell (5 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks)
Notable Injuries: RB Leonard Fournette (hamstring), CB D.J. Hayden (toe), OL A.J. Cann (triceps)
What it means for the Redskins: One week Blake Bortles looks really good against the Patriots, the next he looks not so good against the Titans. Regardless, the defense is really impressive, and the Redskins will likely find points hard to come by in this matchup. Leonard Fournette is dealing with a minor hamstring injury, but that shouldn't be an issue come December.
Tennessee Titans (2-1)
Game vs. Redskins: Week 16. Sunday, Dec. 23 at 1;00 p.m. (Nashville)
Week 3 Result: 9-6 win over the Jaguars.
Week 3 Performers: RB Derrick Henry (18 carries, 57 yards), QB Marcus Mariota (12-18, 100 yards, 7 rushes, 51 yards), LB Wesley Woodyard (12 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack)
Notable Injuries: QB Blaine Gabbert (concussion), T Dennis Kelly (illness)
What it means for the Redskins: Marcus Mariota looks to be recovered enough from his elbow injury to return to the starting QB role. The Titans defense ranks third in points allowed per game (16.7), trailing only the Redskins and Jaguars. Nashville at Christmas should be a lot of fun.
