It's been 13 quarters since the Redskins last scored a touchdown. That's three full games. In fact, the last time the Redskins scored a touchdown there had not been a World Series winner in Washington in more than 90 years.
Sunday's loss in Buffalo was incredibly boring. Adrian Peterson was the only highlight, as he got going early with more than 100 yards in the first half. Inexplicably, Washington got away from Peterson in the second half.
There's not much too good to say, but there are lots of things to say.
- The Redskins defense could not make stops at all on Sunday. The Bills did not punt until the second half of the game, and to ice the game, the Bills converted a 3rd and 18 late in the fourth quarter with a 23-yard pass from Josh Alen to John Brown. The Redskins forced no turnovers and got two sacks, but both of those were the type where Allen was running around and somebody tackled him. For all the problems the Redskins have offensively, the defense did not do nearly enough against a bad Bills offense to win.
- Dwayne Haskins wasn't good, but he wasn't bad either. Maybe that's progress? He had no interceptions or fumbles for the first 58 minutes of the game, and while he missed a few chances at chunk plays particularly on a fourth-quarter throw to Trey Quinn, the rookie quarterback avoided the backbreaking mistake that plagued him in action in New York and Minnesota. For the game, Haskins completed 15 of 22 for 144 yards.
- For much of the contest against Buffalo, the Redskins seemed more content to keep it close than willing to attack and try to win. That's a dangerous place to live for an NFL team. Dangerous.
- As of the final two minutes of this game, the Redskins had converted 2 of 10 third downs, with zero first down conversions in the first half. That's awful. Meanwhile, the Bills converted five of six third downs in the first half and six of 10 for the game. If an offense can't stay on the field, and a defense can't get off the field, well, it's pretty hard to win. Actually, very hard.
