Fans and media have been wondering who will play left guard for the Redskins this year. They now have the guy who started there last year as an option.
The agents for Shawn Lauvao tweeted that the Redskins have re-signed their client. Lauvao was a free agent after four up-and-down seasons in Washington.
Lauvao was the starter coming out of training camp in each of the four season after the Redskins signed him in 2014 following four years with the Browns. Even-numbered years were good for him. He started 15 games in 2014 and 14 in 2016.
But the injury bug hit him hard the other two seasons. In Week 3 in 2015, he suffered a season-ending ankle injury. Last year he played in nine games before going on injured reserve with a neck injury.
The Redskins maintained interest in Lauvao throughout the free agency process. When they came out of the draft without a better alternative at left guard, they went ahead and brought back Lauvao.
Lauvao, 30, faces competition from Arie Kouandjio for the starting job. If Lauvao is the starter, the Redskins needs to make sure that they have solid depth behind him, given his injury history.
