On the latest Redskins Talk Podcast, NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay and Pete Hailey were joined by ESPN's John Keim and the Washington Post's Kareem Copeland to discuss their 53-man Redskins roster projection.
The Burgundy and Gold play their final preseason game on Thursday against the Ravens (keep in mind these projections occurred before kickoff, injuries can still happen), and must have their roster trimmed from 90 players to 53 by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
That's quite the quick turnaround.
So who is a lock? On the bubble? On the outside looking in? Here's what the guys have.
Quarterbacks:
All four were in agreement on the Redskins keeping three quarterbacks.
JP Finlay: Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy (3)
Pete Hailey: Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy (3)
John Keim: Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy (3)
Kareem Copeland: Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy (3)
Running Back:
JP, Copeland, and Keim were all in agreement, while Hailey had the last spot going to Byron Marshall over Samaje Perine.
JP: Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice, Chris Thompson, Samaje Perine (4)
Pete: Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice, Chris Thompson, Byron Marshall (4)
Keim: Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice, Chris Thompson, Samaje Perine (4)
Copeland: Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice, Chris Thompson, Samaje Perine (4)
Tight End:
While there were some questions whether the team would keep a fourth tight end to help out as a blocker, the crew had a consensus three tight ends on the final 53.
JP: Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremy Sprinkle (3)
Pete: Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremy Sprinkle (3)
Keim: Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremy Sprinkle (3)
Copeland: Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremy Sprinkle (3)
Wide Receiver:
The first group that had some difference. All four had the same six wide receivers on their final 53, but both JP and Pete gave an extra WR spot to Robert Davis. Steven Sims was mentioned as a possible practice squad candidate.
JP: Paul Richardson, Terry McLaurin, Trey Quinn, Kelvin Harmon, Cam Sims, Josh Doctson, Robert Davis (7)
Pete: Paul Richardson, Terry McLaurin, Trey Quinn, Kelvin Harmon, Cam Sims, Josh Doctson, Robert Davis (7)
Keim: Paul Richardson, Terry McLaurin, Trey Quinn, Kelvin Harmon, Cam Sims, Josh Doctson (6)
Copeland: Paul Richardson, Terry McLaurin, Trey Quinn, Kelvin Harmon, Cam Sims, Josh Doctson (6)
Offensive Line:
The group had a consensus nine offensive lineman, assuming Trent Williams continues his holdout. Should the Redskins All-Pro left tackle return, this group could get tricky in terms of who gets pushed out.
JP: Donald Penn, Wes Martin, Chase Roullier, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Ross Pierschbacher, Tony Bergstrom, Geron Christian, Ereck Flowers (9)
Pete: Donald Penn, Wes Martin, Chase Roullier, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Ross Pierschbacher, Tony Bergstrom, Geron Christian, Ereck Flowers (9)
Keim: Donald Penn, Wes Martin, Chase Roullier, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Ross Pierschbacher, Tony Bergstrom, Geron Christian, Ereck Flowers (9)
Copeland: Donald Penn, Wes Martin, Chase Roullier, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Ross Pierschbacher, Tony Bergstrom, Geron Christian, Ereck Flowers (9)
Defensive Line:
These five spots have been locked up for a long time. While there was a consideration for keeping a sixth, no one budged.
JP: Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle, Caleb Brantley (5)
Pete: Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle, Caleb Brantley (5)
Keim: Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle, Caleb Brantley (5)
Copeland: Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle, Caleb Brantley (5)
Outside Linebacker:
There are four locks at the outside linebacker spot. The final spot is up in the air, but the crew chose Marquis Flowers over B.J. Blunt.
JP: Ryan Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, Ryan Anderson, Cassanova McKinzy, Marquis Flowers
Pete: Ryan Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, Ryan Anderson, Cassanova McKinzy, Marquis Flowers
Keim: Ryan Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, Ryan Anderson, Cassanova McKinzy, Marquis Flowers
Copeland: Ryan Kerrigan, Montez Sweat, Ryan Anderson, Cassanova McKinzy, Marquis Flowers
Inside Linebacker:
There are also four locks at the inside linebacker spot. The team would like to keep 10 total linebackers, but the crew does not believe they will this year. Here are the consensus four inside linebackers:
JP: Shaun Dion Hamilton, Jon Bostic, Joshua Harvey-Clemons, Cole Holcomb (4)
Pete: Shaun Dion Hamilton, Jon Bostic, Joshua Harvey-Clemons, Cole Holcomb (4)
Keim: Shaun Dion Hamilton, Jon Bostic, Joshua Harvey-Clemons, Cole Holcomb (4)
Copeland: Shaun Dion Hamilton, Jon Bostic, Joshua Harvey-Clemons, Cole Holcomb (4)
Safety:
Collins, Nicholson, Apke, and Everett were locks. But Keim and Copeland think that final roster spot will be given to Jeremy Reaves, while JP and Pete have the Redskins keeping seven wide receivers instead.
JP: Landon Collins, Montae Nicholson, Troy Apke, Deshazor Everett (4)
Pete: Landon Collins, Montae Nicholson, Troy Apke, Deshazor Everett (4)
Keim: Landon Collins, Montae Nicholson, Troy Apke, Deshazor Everett, Jeremy Reaves (5)
Copeland: Landon Collins, Montae Nicholson, Troy Apke, Deshazor Everett, Jeremy Reaves (5)
Cornerback:
The top six spots are locks. What should the Redskins do with Adonis Alexander? All four had him on the outside looking in, with practice squad potential.
JP: Josh Norman, Quinton Dunbar, Fabian Moreau, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jimmy Moreland, Greg Stroman (6)
Pete: Josh Norman, Quinton Dunbar, Fabian Moreau, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jimmy Moreland, Greg Stroman (6)
Keim: Josh Norman, Quinton Dunbar, Fabian Moreau, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jimmy Moreland, Greg Stroman (6)
Copeland: Josh Norman, Quinton Dunbar, Fabian Moreau, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jimmy Moreland, Greg Stroman (6)
Specialists:
No debates here.
JP: Nick Sundberg, Tress Way, Dustin Hopkins (3)
Pete: Nick Sundberg, Tress Way, Dustin Hopkins (3)
Keim: Nick Sundberg, Tress Way, Dustin Hopkins (3)
Copeland: Nick Sundberg, Tress Way, Dustin Hopkins (3)
