The third preseason game is typically the one that most resembles a regular season contest, as NFL teams (sort of) take the restrictions off their starters and let them play a decent amount. Therefore, there's less of a need for fans to look high, low, between the couch cushions and anywhere else for extra storylines to add juice to that night's action.
With that being said, there's no such thing as too much juice. Unfortunately, Friday's Redskins-Broncos matchups is losing a pinch of its because of one absence.
Su'a Cravens, whom Washington traded to Denver back in March after Cravens' up-then-down career in the Burgundy and Gold, will not play vs. his former team at FedEx Field. Knee soreness will keep him from suiting up, per Broncos.com.
The 23-year-old recently suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee issue and the organization doesn't want to force anything. In fact, defensive coordinator Joe Woods wouldn't say if Cravens would be ready for the 2018 opener.
This is the second week in a row a notable ex-Redskin will sit out a game in Landover. Last Thursday, Terrelle Pryor's ankle prevented him from reuniting with Zach Brown and the rest of Washington's defense.
Luckily, there's still Week 4's showdown with the Ravens to look forward to. Watching one QB in particular in that one should be a lot of fun — and that is certainly not referring to Joe Flacco, because watching Joe Flacco is never any fun.
