Rockies, Herrera agree to $900,000 deal for 2013

DENVER (AP) Infielder Jonathan Herrera and the Colorado Rockies agreed to a one-year, $900,000 contract on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration.

Herrera hit .262 with nine doubles, three homers, 12 RBIs and 29 runs in 86 games last season, when he was dogged by injuries. He missed a total of 39 games while on the DL, first with a strained right hamstring and then a left wrist infection.

The 28-year-old Venezuelan has spent his entire career with the Rockies after signing with them as a non-drafted free agent in 2002.

In 294 career major league games, he's hit .259 with seven homers and 50 RBIs.

Stephen Strasburg gets a visit from living legend, Jack White

Two days after claiming his 15th victory of the season, Nationals' pitcher Stephen Strasburg received a visit from a very special fan.

The legend. Jack White.

Strasburg has sported the walk-up song, Seven Nation Army, since 2010; the song was created by rock duo "The White Stripes," which was made up of Jack White and Meg White.

With the amount of success Strasburg has seen in his career don't expect him to change his walk-up song anytime soon.

Redskins seek to add linebacker depth by signing Gary Johnson

The Redskins added some linebacker depth Saturday afternoon by signing former Texas LB Gary Johnson, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.

Johnson, 23, was released by the Kansas City Chiefs back in June following mandatory minicamp.

This signing immediately addresses a position of need as Washington's linebacker room is banged up. Reuben Foster was ruled out of the entire season due to a torn ACL he suffered in May, Josh Harvey-Clemmons is going through concussion protocol while strengthening an ailing knee, and Shaun Dion Hamilton is still questionable with a chest injury.

In his two seasons at Texas, Johnson tallied 147 tackles, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in 23 games.

Johnson took to Twitter to celebrate his latest opportunity in the nation's capital:

Johnson's Twitter profile also features the statement "I Hate QB's & RB's."

It's fair to say the Redskins are always on the lookout for defensive guys with that mentality.
