Smith scores 29 as FIU defeats Stetson 82-79

DELAND, Fla. (AP) Malik Smith scored a career-high 29 points, including eight in the final 37 seconds, to lead Florida International to an 82-79 nonconference victory over Stetson on Sunday.

A 3-pointer by Smith broke a 65-65 tie with 5:53 remaining, and Gaby Belardo's free throw gave FIU (3-3) a four-point lead. The Hatters (2-6) tied it on four free throws by Chris Perez, who finished with 22 points.

A three-point play by Tymell Murphy gave FIU a 72-69 lead with 1:51 left. Murphy finished with 11 points and nine assists.

Another trey by Smith made it 77-72 at the 37-second mark, and he added five free throws the rest of the way to offset Stetson's four points by Perez and three by Willie Smith.

Belardo and Juan Ferrales scored 12 points each for FIU.

Adam Pegg added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Hatters.

Charlie Moore scores 20 to lift DePaul past Georgetown

CHICAGO -- Charlie Moore had 20 points as DePaul broke its eight-game losing streak, topping Georgetown 74-68 on Saturday night.

Moore hit 8 of 10 foul shots. He added seven assists.

Romeo Weems had 19 points for DePaul (14-13, 2-12 Big East Conference). Paul Reed added 12 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Jaylen Butz had 10 points.

Terrell Allen had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Hoyas (15-12, 5-9). Jamorko Pickett added 19 points and seven rebounds. Jagan Mosely had 13 points.

The Blue Demons leveled the season series against the Hoyas with the win. Georgetown defeated DePaul 76-72 on Feb. 8. DePaul takes on Xavier on the road on Tuesday. Georgetown plays No. 19 Marquette on the road on Wednesday.

Wizards District Gaming takes JBM with No.1 pick in 2020 NBA 2K League Draft

Sixty eight gamers' lives changed on Saturday night. 

One of those very lucky individuals was Jack Mascone, who was selected by Wizards District Gaming with the No.1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft. 

Wizards’ managing partner Ted Leonsis had a special message for the point guard from New York, who joins the Monumental Sports & Entertainment family. 

“On behalf of the Wizards, Mystics and Go-Go we’d like to welcome JBM to the Monumental basketball family. Congratulations on your hard work paying off. We’re excited to have you run the District with us,” Leonsis said.

Wizards District Gaming also drafted small forward Justin Howell in the second round, No. 30 overall, small forward Antonio Newman, No. 37, and utility Brandon Richardson at No. 51 in the third round.
