Less than 48 hours after seeing D.C. United lose 5-0 in their season finale, Head Coach Ben Olsen was hoping his team’s worst performance of the season might serve as inspiration ahead of their biggest game of 2015.
“It should fuel us,” Olsen said Tuesday as United prepared for Wednesday’s Knockout Round match against the New England Revolution. “We didn’t address it to much but there is some basic stuff that needs to get better.”
Olsen also hinted at potential lineup changes for D.C.’s playoff opener. While the Black-and-Red midfield seems set, shuffling might occur along United’s forward or defensive lines. D.C. has used both Steve Birnbaum and Kofi Opare alongside Bobby Boswell in defense, while forward Alvaro Saborio has made a strong case for more minutes since being dropped from the starting eleven. The Costa Rican striker has two goals in his last three appearances off the bench.
Wednesday’s match will be televised on CSN Plus (channel finder here). Coverage starts at 7:30 P.M.
