TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie running back Doug Martin is being added to the NFC Pro Bowl roster, taking the place of San Francisco 49ers runner Frank Gore, who'll go to the Super Bowl instead.
Martin is the Bucs' first rookie in the Pro Bowl since kick returner Clifton Smith in 2008.
Martin, the 30th pick in last April's NFL draft, ran for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. His yards rushing ranked fifth in the league.
Gore ran for two touchdowns to help San Francisco beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 in the NFC championship game Sunday.
The Pro Bowl will be played in Hawaii next Sunday.
The Wizards' 113-108 loss to the Nuggets Thursday marked Troy Brown's first NBA start. And the Wizards' rookie guard impressed, scoring a career-high 13 points and snagging five rebounds.
How did Brown find out he was starting, you may ask? Through Twitter, of course!
Head coach Scott Brooks told reporters Brown was taking the injured Trevor Ariza's place in the starting five before notifying Brown himself, and like every 19-year old kid, Brown gets his news on Twitter.
And Thursday night, Brown's Twitter timeline brought him some of the biggest news of his basketball career.
MORE WIZARDS NEWS:
NBC Sports Washington's Chris Miller spoke with Washington Valor defensive back Marrio Norman Thursday at the Nuggets-Wizards matchup at Capital One Arena.
Norman, the older brother of Redskins cornerback Josh Norman, was assigned to the Valor on March 6.
"I'm just excited to come and to add my talents to the team," Norman said.
Although the two brothers will be suiting up in different venues in the Nation's Capital, the younger Norman briefed the former on handling the press in Washington.
In 2018 with the Albany Empire, Norman racked up 58 total tackles and three interceptions.
The Valor's season kicks off on April 26 against the Baltimore Brigade at Royal Farms Arena.
