The Capitals face the Carolina Hurricanes Friday (CSN+, 7:30 p.m.) looking to avenge the 5-1 loss they suffered the last time they played in Raleigh.

Here are three bold predictions for the game:

1. A Capitals defenseman will score

After a very slow start to the season, the Caps’ blue line is starting to heat up offensively. Matt Niskanen’s two goals were the difference on Tuesday against the New York Islanders and John Carlson scored his first of the season just last week against Buffalo.

2. Washington will score a power play goal

The Caps’ power play is red hot with five goals in the last three games. So why is this a bold prediction? Because they are going up against a Carolina team that has not allowed a power play goal in the month of December and ranks first in the NHL in overall penalty kill percentage at 92.3 percent.

3. Jordan Staal will have a multi-point game with at least one goal.

Staal scored one goal and one assist in his return from a seven-game absence due to a concussion on Tuesday. With two more days to rest up before another home game against a team he is very familiar with, this is shaping up to be a big game for the veteran center.
