T.J. Oshie returned to practice Friday morning and after a bit of an injury scare against New Jersey.

In the third period of Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat, Oshie was knocked down near the net by Devils defenseman John Moore. Oshie got up, raced across the ice and slammed into the boards as he lined up a New Jersey player. He then gingerly made his way off the ice.

Oshie was checked out by an athletic trainer on the bench and did not finish the game as a precaution.

It’s not clear what was ailing Oshie but he felt good enough to participate in Friday's morning skate and then go through some additional on-ice work with the players who aren’t suiting up at PNC Arena in Raleigh.

Oshie was not scheduled to play against the Canes, anyway, Coach Barry Trotz said.

“I got a little tangled up with a guy behind the net and, just, I mean it’s preseason, so just decided not to finish the last 10 minutes,” Oshie said. “I think in the regular season, if that’s Game 1, I just probably stay in. But I just wanted to be sure. It was a little precautionary thing.”

As for how he felt, Oshie said: “I skated out today and I felt normal. I feel good. I imagine I’ve got a pretty good chance of going Sunday.”

The Caps close out the preseason in St. Louis on Sunday. Trotz said he hopes the exhibition finale will serve as a dress rehearsal for the regular season, which begins Oct. 5 in Ottawa.
