As the Caps host the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, fans will likely get their first look at the third defensive pair we expect to see from Washington in the playoffs.

Brooks Orpik has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury, but head coach Barry Trotz said the veteran defenseman would "probably" be in the lineup against the Devils.

"Yeah, I anticipate him being in tonight," Trotz told the media after Thursday's morning skate.

Should he return, he will likely skate alongside the newly acquired Kevin Shattenkirk on the third defensive pairing.

The news is not so good for T.J. Oshie. Though Trotz said he was "real close" to returning, the top-line winger will miss his fourth straight game due to an upper-body injury.

Trotz also provided an update on winger Andre Burakovsky who continues to rehab a hand injury saying the young winger would be re-evaluated on Thursday.

"[Burakovsky's] working really, really hard," Trotz said. "The doctors are going to look at his hand, evaluate it again today. He's on the right timeline and they're going to reevaluate at the game tonight and the next timeline will come in play."

Burakovsky suffered the injury on Feb. 9 against the Detroit Red Wings as he reached out his hand to block a shot. He has been out of the lineup ever since and is now on long-term injured reserve.
