Brooks Orpik returned to the line up on Friday after a three-game absence for what was thought to be a lower-body injury. As it turns out, it wasn't that simple.

In an interview with Capitals Radio host Ben Raby on Thursday, Orpik revealed the injury wasn't actually an injury at all.

"It's kind of a weird situation there," Orpik said. "It wasn't really an injury, more of kind of a weird infection in my leg. It was something that kind of came out of nowhere and surprised us. We didn't know how I got it. So a little bit frustrating. It wasn't like I got injured playing so just had to be patient with it."

When asked about the infection after Friday's practice, Orpik revealed more details.

"I blocked a shot [in the leg] a couple of weeks ago and I think it's just like fluid that was in there got infected. It was a wonderful experience."

Orpik was limited to just 41 games last season because of injury. For a random infection to spring up this season must have been wildly frustrating.

Plus, it just sounds really, really unpleasant.
