Brett Connolly scored his first goal as a Capital on Sunday and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The big winger sneaked into the slot and snapped a slick centering pass from Jay Beagle past Flames goalie Brian Elliott to stake the Capitals to a 1-0 lead on the road.

The Capitals would go on to win 3-1.

I wasn’t worried. For the [first] three games I played this year, I had at least two, three, four shots on net. I had some good chances, so I knew it was going to come. Beags made a good play there on the goal. I was in a good spot to shoot it. I’d like to think if I get shots from there, I’ll score a little bit. It was good. It was a good play by Beags, and it was nice to get that first one out of the way.

Indeed, Connolly has generated chances when he’s been in the lineup.

In limited ice time (9:38 per) spread over four games, he’s registered nine shots on net.

Connolly’s goal leaves Beagle, Nicklas Backstrom and Zach Sanford as the only Capitals’ forwards still looking for their first tally.
