The 25-year-old had 59 points in 82 games last season, his second consecutive season playing every game. Kuznetsov led the team with 77 points in 82 games in the 2015-16 season.

This is the third contract extension the Caps have confirmed in the past 10 days, including T.J. Oshie and Dmitry Orlov.

The $7.8 million annual payout makes Kuznetsov the second highest-paid player on the team, behind Alex Ovechkin.
