Justin Williams was a surprise scratch Wednesday night due to an injury, but the good news is that the Capitals expect him back soon.

Williams suffered a lower body injury in the Capitals’ 3-2 loss to the Islanders on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, the 35-year-old winger participated in the morning skate at Kettler Capitals Iceplex but he did not suit up against Boston. Beagle replaced Williams on the second line as the Caps beat the Bruins, 5-3.

The team is calling Williams’ injury day-to-day.

“He got a little bit nicked up [Tuesday] night,” Coach Barry Trotz said. “We just thought the best for him would be just letting it settle, knowing we’ve got a couple of got a couple of days [between games].”

“He’s going to be fine,” Trotz added, “and he’ll be playing in Montreal.”

The Capitals will take Thursday off and return to practice Friday in Arlington. They've got back-to-back games over the weekend at the Canadiens and home against the Kings.

Williams is third on the Caps in goals with 17.
