The Capitals reassigned forward Paul Carey to the Hershey Bears on Sunday.
Carey was recalled on Friday and traveled with Washington to Toronto for Saturday’s game as insurance. With T.J. Oshie sidelined, the cap-strapped Caps had only 12 healthy forwards before calling up Carey.
The 28-year-old took the morning skate at Air Canada Centre but did not suit up in the 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Carey has appeared in one game for Washington this season.
The Capitals do not play until Thursday, when they host the Islanders at Verizon Center.
