CSN Mid-Atlantic and the Washington Capitals have announced the team’s 76-game regional television schedule for the 2016-17 NHL season, which will be surrounded by comprehensive multiplatform news, analysis and commentary highlighted by new gameday shows Caps GameTime and Caps Extra.
CSN’s schedule includes 70 regular-season games and an all-time high six preseason contests. As previously announced, NBCSN and NBC will combine to present exclusive national coverage of 12 Capitals games this season, making the team’s entire 82-game regular-season schedule available throughout the region via the NBC Sports Group.
CSN’s live coverage of the 2016-17 Capitals will begin with the preseason opener against Carolina on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. and will include six of the team’s seven exhibition games. CSN’s regular-season schedule will start with the Capitals’ home opener Oct. 15 against the New York Islanders (7 p.m.), following NBCSN’s exclusive national coverage of the team’s Oct. 13 regular-season opener at Pittsburgh (8 p.m.)
CSN’s live coverage will be led by Emmy Award-winning play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati, game analyst Craig Laughlin and reporter Al Koken, who are entering their 20th consecutive season together.
Analyst Alan May will again contribute regularly to game coverage, as will Capitals TV beat reporter Jill Sorenson and Capitals Insider Tarik El-Bashir.
Caps GameTime and Caps Extra will debut this season to provide enhanced coverage before and after games, respectively.
The new half-hour programs will integrate high-energy debate, commentary and fan interaction with extensive news, analysis and interviews. Led by host Sebastian Salazar and May, Caps GameTime and Caps Extra will feature contributions from the announcers and reporters at the arena and a rotating cast of in-studio guests, including Brent Johnson, Courtney Laughlin and 106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen.
The weekly magazine show Capitals Central will return to CSN this season to deliver in-depth features, commentary and interviews. New episodes will debut Sundays at 10:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 9, and will encore multiple times each week.
