John Carlson a late scratch for Tuesday's game in Toronto

Capitals

Capitals defenseman John Carlson was scratched from Tuesday's game in Toronto with a lower-body injury. The announcement was made just before game time. He is considered day-to-day.

Nate Schmidt dressed in Carlson's place.

Carlson took a hard hit from Scott Hartnell into the boards Sunday in a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was caught by Hartnell awkwardly with his right knee in front of him as he was hit into the boards. The play occurred in the first period. Carlson did finish the game so there's no indication that the injury is a result of the hit.
