Karl Alzner will not play Game 3 on Monday in Toronto due to an upper-body injury. The team made the announcement just prior to pregame warmups.

Alzner did not take part in Monday's morning skate due to a "maintenance day" and was considered a game-time decision. This will be the first time since 2010 that Alzner has not played, snapping a streak of 599 straight games.

In Alzner's place will be Nate Schmidt who will play on the left alongside John Carlson. Schmidt played on April 4 in Toronto in the last regular season meeting between the Caps and Maple Leafs scoring one goal.
